North Africa in Crisis

Over the four days of this campaign we will provide content covering the entire prayer cycle. Today we will focus on: pray the Word, thanksgiving, and singing.

Pray the Word (5 minutes)

Pray specific passages that involve crisis over Morocco and Libya.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” –John 16:33

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” -1 Peter 5:8-10

“And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. Women received back their dead, raised to life again. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. Some faced jeers and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. They were put to death by stoning; they were sawed in two; they were killed by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated—the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground.” –Hebrews 11:32-38

Give thanks to the Lord on behalf of you, your family, disciples, and churches. Thank Him for the opportunity to be a blessing to Morocco and Libya in the midst of disaster.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” –Romans 8:38-39 

“We ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters, and rightly so, because your faith is growing more and more, and the love all of you have for one another is increasing. Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.” –2 Thessalonians 1:3-7

“That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” –2 Corinthians 12:10

“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” –Romans 5:3-5

Sing (5 minutes)

Sing a new song or songs of praise and worship over Morocco and Libya. Focus on God’s character and remembrance of what He has already done. Sing or read songs of praise or worship or a hymn or spiritual song.

How does God lead you to pray as you view this image from Morocco?

Prayer Requests from Morocco:

• Pray for a brother who previously walked away from his faith due to persecution. He lives near the epicenter and after the quake, his house was still standing. This made him realize God’s power and has returned to Christ, ready to share Good News with his village.
• Pray for the things shared by an individual who went to offer medical support in the Moroccan villages: “Today we were able to follow up on some specific medication needs from yesterday, for example, a man who lost two fingers and had the stumps stitched really needed antibiotics as infection had set in. Mostly we saw many more wounds that are now 5 days old. At one village we hadn’t stopped at yesterday, the Moroccan man with us asked us to stop to check on two people. We ended up gingerly crossing over a number of toppled homes along a hillside, with a heavy stench of decay, up to the other side where there were a number of people staying. The first patient was a man who had injured his ankle but was alive, as he shared that he had lost his wife and young children. The second was a woman who had bruises on her thighs, and we ended up going to a tent for privacy to check her (the women are all wearing long sleeved dresses, leggings, and head scarves). I finished seeing her and the other woman and I prayed for her. We thought we were done but discovered there was a number of women waiting to be seen. We ended up there at least an hour. Many women ask if we can help them with a medicine for stress and sleep. One dear little 7-year-old girl lost her parents, another woman lost her two little boys. As we’re walking back down over the rubble the guide was pointing out that this is where they pulled out my parents, this was my aunt…etc. The woman with me and I are honored to have been able to embrace so many women and share in their tears and speak simple words of comfort and hope.”
