North Africa in Crisis

Over the four days of this campaign we will provide content covering the entire prayer cycle. Today we will focus on the first three: praise, waiting, and confession.

Praise (5 minutes)

Start your prayer time by praising the Lord and his character. Praise Him for his presence with Moroccans and Libyans in crisis, that He is good and longs to save people.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” –Psalm 34:18 

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” –Genesis 50:20 

“For you, God, tested us; you refined us like silver. You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs. You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.” –Psalm 66:10-12

Wait (5 minutes)

Spend this time waiting on the Lord. Be silent and let Him bring to mind people and ways to pray and respond.

“So I say, “My splendor is gone and all that I had hoped from the Lord.” I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young. Let him sit alone in silence, for the Lord has laid it on him. Let him bury his face in the dust— there may yet be hope. Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him, and let him be filled with disgrace. For no one is cast off by the Lord forever. Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone.” –Lamentations 3:18-33

Confess/Lament (5 minutes)

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you anything to repent of in your life or on behalf of our Libyan and Moroccan neighbors. Make a prayer of confession so that you might be cleansed. Lament to the Lord about the earthquake in Morocco and the floods in Libya: Tell the Lord what happened, how you feel, & what was the hardest part. Pray for forgiveness for those who did not take care of the dams in Derna, Libya.

“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.” –2 Corinthians 7:10

 “Why should the living complain when punished for their sins? Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.” –Lamentations 3:39-40

Prayer Requests from Morocco:

• Immediate needs are now being met in most of the villages across the region. But moving forward, long term needs such as shelter, clean water, toilets and sanitation become a bigger issue.
• Pray for Moroccan Christians who are seeking ways to meet physical needs, baking bread, and sharing the Bread of Life as they serve.
