North Africa in Crisis

Prayer for the thousands suffering in Libya and Morocco

Prayer Fuel

Day 2

Over the four days of this campaign we will provide content covering the entire prayer cycle. Today we will focus on: read the Word, petition, and intercession.

Read the Word (5 minutes)

Spend time reading examples of disaster in scripture and ask God to guide you in praying it for Morocco and Libya.

“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” -Matthew 24:7, 14

“Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order to provide for urgent needs and not live unfruitful lives.” –Titus 3:14

Ask (5 minutes)

Make general requests on behalf of Libyans and Moroccans. Ask God to bless you to be a blessing in the midst of crisis. Ask God to turn people to Him, heal, and recover His design through disaster.

“I called on your name, Lord, from the depths of the pit. You heard my plea: “Do not close your ears to my cry for relief.” You came near when I called you, and you said, “Do not fear.” –Lamentations 3:55-57

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.” –2 Corinthians 1:3-7

Intercede (5 minutes)

Make specific requests on behalf of Libyans and Moroccans.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” –Matthew 5:4

“You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.” –1 Thessalonians 1:6-7

“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.” –Romans 12:15

A global aid effort for Libya gathered pace on September 14 after a tsunami-sized flash flood killed at least 4,000 people, with thousands more missing, a death toll the UN blamed in part on the legacy of years of war and chaos. Prayer Requests from Libya:

  • Resources are coming into the country from abroad. Some of them are being bought by Christians. Pray for the partnership of those involved and for Jesus’ love to be clear to those they serve.
  • The story of Jonah tells of God’s love for the lost people of Nineveh and his plan to rescue them from judgment. How might his words in Jonah 4:13 be relevant for the people of Derna, Libya? “And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know their right hand from their left…?

Praying as a group?

Leading others in prayer is a great step in making disciples. We want to celebrate your and their faithfulness. For each person that prays with you, we will add 15 minutes to the 9.1 days of prayer committed so far.
